SCARS – The Quarry

The Quarry is a journal of creative writing published by the Department of English of Macquarie University, showcasing the work of students from the undergraduate’s Writing major final unit, Postgraduate students from the Master of Arts and creative PhD students from the Department

The third issue of The Quarry examines the FAULT LINES that run through our bones and minds, that wrenches apart families, or divides the ground beneath our feet. This issue was edited by Nicola Moriarty, Hannah McNicholas, Jessica Sheridan, Eva Lo and Jacob Harrison. Special thanks go to Jane Messer for all of her support and guidance throughout the writing process.

As well as his role as Editor, SCARS is Jacob Harrison’s contribution to issue three of The Quarry. SCARS is a creative non-fiction piece that examines scars on the body as fault lines, caused by inner turmoil and outer trauma – by accident or design. The Writer considers how different aspects that create identity rub together, creating friction, earthquakes and volcanoes. A raw memoir assembled with a thread of dark wit, Harrison contemplates the concept of Identity as fluid and in constant flux, despite the illusory surface that seems never to change.
